Philip Rivers Appreciation

I've dreaded this day for a while. Philip Rivers has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons. Seventeen, a number that should have been so glaringly obvious to anyone paying attention but I chose to block it out. If we don't think about it, it won't happen and Phil will play forever right? RIGHT?
I vaguely remember feeling disappointed when I found out Barry Sanders was retiring from the NFL. As a kid, and growing up a Bears fan, I had no affiliation to the Lions or #20 but I loved watching him play and knew that when he retired we may never see another like him. Multiply that by 1,000 and that's how I feel about Philip Rivers.
I've told stories about my time at NC State with Phil, from talking to him at parties to getting destroyed in the intramural basketball championship by Phil and a half dozen other football players and I'm sure I'll repeat them at some point because that's how we cope. But if I'm being honest, there is no way my words will match those of the thousands of Rivers fans that have spoken out today so while I'll probably talk about this on the next pod or even write about it again, below is a running list of words, tweets, pictures, videos and gifs of Rivers that people have shared.

I’ll never forget lining up for a play and Phil pointing to one of our linebackers and telling him he was lined up wrong based off the blitz we were about to run and being 100% correct about it haha.

One of the smartest I’ve ever played against and a hell of a competitor. https://t.co/1AZxyvDafu

we played Rivers in 2016 and after the Chargers broke the huddle he stopped his RB midway from splitting out wide and placed him in the backfield and said “they’re going to be in 3 I don’t need you out there!”

Our defense wasn’t even aligned and yes, we were in Cover 3. https://t.co/6XVp8cE9lW

After shattering nearly every ACC passing record from 2000-2003, his records for Passing YDs (13,384) and Completions (1,087) still stand. He would go on to make 8 Pro Bowls in the NFL and many more children.

His years at NCSU were my absolute favorite. I didn't think there was a game we could lose with him under center. I can say with 100% certainty he is my all time favorite NC State player.
